Issues editing Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II AVCHD MTS video in Premiere

When you try to import Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II AVCHD (MTS) files in your project using Premiere Pro, you could get an error message that says, "The file has an unsupported compression type." This error can be solved via transcoding the footage to a file type that is best suitable for Premiere, such as ProRes for Mac based Premiere, and DNxHD for Windows based Premiere.

"I have a ton of AVCHD .mts files taken with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II. I know I can start editing in Premiere without transcoding. Unfortunately, my machine doesn't have enough power to handle them. Would it be better to transcode to a different format for easier editing in Premiere? If so, which format is suitable? And which program is good to do this? Please kindly suggest a solution if you know. Thanks in advance."
